Gong Xi Fa Cai

Happy Chinese New Year!  The celebrations have been going on here in Penang for almost two weeks now.  Everywhere you go, there are red lanterns hanging up and signs wishing everyone a happy new year.  The city became a ghost town for about two days, with shops and restaurants closing to celebrate.  And then there have been fireworks.  Every night.  All night.  Fourth of July type fireworks at 3:30 in the morning.  I am not kidding.  Luckily, our children become comatose at night and it has not interfered with their sleep.  Josh and I on the other hand seem to be taking a refresher course on how it feels to have a newborn.  Guess the timing is right!

We have really enjoyed seeing these celebrations first hand.  Initially, we had planned to be in Singapore for the new year.  But both of the kids ended up with infections and fevers and we were forced to cancel our trip.  Once they were well enough to venture out, we were able to see a couple of lion dances and wander around admiring all of the beautiful decorations.  What a wonderful experience it has been - definitley one of my favorites during our time here.
